3. Finishes¶
A Finish (UQuickCardsFinish, Content Browser > QuickCards > Finish) is a foil, shine or metal: how it looks, not
where it goes. Where it goes:
- An art row's Finish puts it on that layer (Holo on the Illustration, Reverse Holo or Gold on the Frame).
- A card instance's finish (Set Finish, e.g. a foil copy pulled from a pack) goes on its Finish On layers: Frame, Art (every slot but the frame) or Whole Card.
- An art row's own finish wins over the instance's on that layer.
A card shows up to two different finishes at once (e.g. a gold frame and a holo illustration); a third is left out with a warning in the log and a note in the card's Details. Finishes are drawn by the card material in the same pass (no extra draw), each with its own mask texture sampler.
| Setting | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Rainbow | Shine (a bright band sweeping across with tilt), Rainbow (holo bands that shift with tilt, strongest in a glint that follows it), Metallic (the art's brightness in the metal's color, plus a streak), Glitter (flakes that flash one by one with tilt; Scale = finer), Cracked Ice (rainbow facets with bright cracks, each facet catching the light at its own angle), Cosmos (a nebula and twinkling stars deep below the surface), Marble (thin veins of light rolling with tilt over a pearl sheen), Swirl (rainbow arms around the card's center that turn with tilt). All procedural: no textures, no extra samplers. Glitter, Cracked Ice, Cosmos, Marble and Swirl are turned and shifted per card (the instance's Pattern Seed, else the card's Pattern Seed setting, else automatic from its name), so copies don't shine alike. An etched foil is Rainbow or Metallic with a pattern in Mask. Custom: your own finish in the material function MF_QC_CustomFinish (below) |
| Mask | none | Optional: only where this texture is white (red channel), stretched over the card, on the layers that have the finish |
| Color | white | The shine's, the metal's, or a tint over the rainbow |
| Strength | 0.6 | 0 = off, 1 = full |
| Scale | 1.5 | More rainbow bands, a narrower shine or streak |
| Angle | 35 | Direction of the bands and the shine, degrees |
| Angle Response | 1 | How far the pattern moves with tilt (1: across the card at about 25 degrees) |
| Center Mask | 0.5 | Fades shine and rainbow while the card faces the viewer; a metal's color stays |
Custom finishes (technical artists): a finish of Type Custom sends its layers to the material function
MF_QC_CustomFinish (in QuickCards/Materials). Inputs: Color (the art's color there, float3), LocalTilt
(xy = point on the card in card widths, y up, 0 at the center; zw = tilt, 0 facing the viewer), Params (type,
strength, scale, angle response), Tint (the finish's color; a = center mask), Time (seconds). Output:
Result (the new color). The finish's Mask and layers apply as for any finish. To make your own: duplicate
M_QC_CardUI and MF_QC_CustomFinish, build your finish with nodes in your function, point your material's function
call at it, and set the card widget's Card Material to your material. The shipped default draws stripes of the
finish's color that slide with tilt. One Custom finish per card at a time.
The card's text never gets a finish, and layers drawn over the foil (by depth) cover it. In the editor, a card updates as soon as its finish (or definition, template) is edited, also while playing.
