3. Templates¶
A template is the layout a kind of card shares. Two presets ship:
- Simple: Background, Frame, Illustration.
- Full Art: Background, Back Effect, Frame, Illustration, Illustration Front, Front Effect, Pop-out (art that breaks out of the frame).
Make your own: duplicate a preset (so plugin updates can't overwrite it), then rename, add, remove or switch off slots. Each slot has:
- Depth: distance from the card's surface, in card widths. Negative sits behind and moves less; positive sits in front and moves more. Deeper layers are drawn first. Typical: background -0.3, illustration -0.2, frame 0, effects +0.1. What reads as movement is the gap between neighbouring layers: widen gaps to make a layer move more. The first slot is the back of the card; nothing goes deeper.
- Kind: Frame: the border. Always on the surface; its transparent area is the card's window, and art in front of the frame shows only through it. That's how the illustration floats in front yet stays inside. Frame art should run to the texture's edges (QuickCards rounds the corners).
- Fit: Cover (fills, crops; default), Contain (shows all), Stretch (art made for the card). Cards can override it and add Scale and Offset.
- Blend: Additive for glows, Multiply for shadows, Screen for haze.
- Unclipped: draws beyond the card's edge (a wing breaking out); give its art room with Extent (1.3 = 1.3 × the card).
- Auto Overscan: enlarges art just enough that its edges never show when tilted. On for full-card layers (backgrounds, snow, mist); off for subjects and their split parts, which must stay lined up.
- Text Depth (below the slots): the text's depth. 0 keeps it on the frame; the text never goes behind the frame.
Fields are the values every card on the template has: by default Cost (top left), Attack (bottom left), Health (bottom right) and Type (above the description). Each has a Type (Number or Text), a Location (or Hidden: not on the card, still usable in the description) and a Color. Two fields can't share a spot: picking a taken spot swaps them. + adds your own.
A card's text: fill in Description and the Fields values. {Attack} in the description shows the value.
To move or recolor a field on one card, tick its Location or Color on that card. The line under Fields points out
anything that won't show.
In your game: on a card instance, Set Stat / Add To Stat (Attack 5) redraws the number and every
{Attack}. Set Text Field changes text, Set Field Color a field's color.
Your own text layout: duplicate WBP_QC_TextLayout_Simple (or parent a widget on QuickCards Text Layout),
design at 630 × 880 (Custom screen size), and move or restyle the text blocks TopLeft, TopRight, BottomLeft,
BottomCenter, BottomRight and AboveDescription. Other text blocks can use {Name}, {Description}, {Attack};
for your own data, override Get Text Value. Set the font here too.
Card textures: QuickCards sets textures used on cards up once in the editor (mipmaps at any size, clamped edges, never streamed); you can undo it. Turn it off with Prepare Card Textures in Project Settings → Plugins → QuickCards, where Text Resolution (512) also lives.
